Dear Dan,
It's been five months since the last newsletter. Our only excuse is that we are using all of our resources to work on projects, and unfortunately none of them to keep in touch with you. That doesn't mean you aren't important to us, just that we sometimes get lost in the work.
This is a short newsletter, with only two articles, the first a request to write letters to EPA asking for the EPA Office of Environmental Education to be preserved, along with a significant part of NNREC's funding and so much else of importance to our community. The second is a request to renew your membership, or to join.
I hope to get another newsletter into your hands soon, with news of the NNREC strategic plan, the Lamoille Institute for Educators, new board members, and many other exciting activities.
I hope that you are enjoying this end of winter, beginning of spring time, doing good work but also remembering to get out and enjoy the earth.

Preserve the EPA Office of Environmental Education
|

|
The US Environmental Protection Agency is considering zeroing out the Office of Environmental Education in order to move the funds to other programs. Congress has funded EPA for this coming year, but the agency has the flexibility to move money between programs. NNREC is asking you to write a letter to Administrator Stephen Johnson asking that the office continue to be funded.

Renew or Join NNREC
|
|
Please renew your membership, or join NNREC. Membership dues are one of our few sources of unrestricted funding. We get grants to do specific projects such as the certification program, the Lamoille Institute for Educators, and PLT workshops, however, these grants do not cover the costs of sustaining the organization. Sustaining costs include this newsletter, the website, exploring new funding options, and insurance. We continuously meet with organizations, agencies, schools and business to find out what they are doing, inform them of what we are doing, identify opportunities for collaboration, and then help implement partnerships. Only a small part of our leadership role is funding by grants. We can't do this without unrestricted funding, which means we can't do it without your support. Our membership year is the calendar year. Please check the list of members who have already renewed or joined in 2007, which includes all of our board members and staff.

If you would like to donate to our endowment fund in addition to or instead of joining as a members, please do so!
