Registration

We encourage online registration and payment, but also allow mail-in registration. We have a refund policy.

Registration fees, which include meals, lodging, instruction, and instructional materials are:

  • $100 per person early registration
  • $120 per person on-site registration

Teams of teachers from a school and the nonformal educators who work with them can receive significant discounts, 10% subtracted for each additional person. In order to receive this discount, teams must register during the early registration period (ending June 14), and may pay online, or by school check or school purchase order. Look at the online registration for teams page to determine what these discounts are, even if you are paying by school check or school purchase order, and complete the online registration form.

The registration fee represents only a portion of the actual cost of the institute, which is about $400 per person. The low fee is the result of funding by: Nevada Division of Forestry (NDF), Conservation Education Program; a North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE) EETAP 3 Building State Capacity for EE program grant of EPA funds; PLT-Fire funds from a PLT/BLM grant; and in-kind donations from Nevada Outdoor School, Nevada Department of Environmental Projection, Nevada Department of Wildlife, USDA Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, and others.

Credit

Teachers may receive either:

  1. For teachers, two credits for 34 hours of instructional time, from either the Nevada Department of Education (SDE-205-2006) or Utah State Office of Education (Exploring Nevada's Forests, Deserts and Wetlands Course #10322350 2-semester hours), no cost; or
  2. For teachers and educators, two credits for 34 hours of instructional time and a small amount of follow-up reporting on implementation plans, from Utah State University. The course is EDUC 5560: Special Topics: Lamoille Institute for Educators, Course Reference Number (CRN) 34704, section code LO3, credits 2, $15 per credit (when was the last time you saw a deal like that?). We will send USU registration forms to those who mark university credit on their application.
