NNREC acknowldeges the recipients of 2006-2007 for providing learning that connects students to their place, and the funders for making the program possible. Water Canyon 3rd Grade Interpretive Field Trip, June 5th, 2007
This was the 1st annual Water Canyon Interpretive Field Trip for the 3rd grade students at Sonoma Heights. Students and teachers had the opportunity to rotate through four stations that taught about the Water Canyon ecosystem.
The four lessons included:
- Riparian Ecosystems- Plant and Animal Facts and Oh Deer! Carrying Capacity Lesson
- Water Quality Testing and Macro-invertebrates
- Snapshot and Project Wet Stream Sense lesson- Water PH testing, secchi disk, disolved oxygen, width and depth of the stream
- Interpretive Hike- Hike through Water Canyon Interpretive Trail and Outlook Trail with an emphasis on vegetation and cultural uses of the canyon
All the lessons that were taught were taken from the nationally recognized environmental resources of Project Wild and Project Wet as well as the Water Canyon Interpretive Field Trip kit developed by Nevada Outdoor School.
